Mr. Lonnie Poling - Age 63 - of Pine Lake Village, Arab, died Sunday, October 12, 2008 in Marshall Medical Center North E.R.

    Mr. Poling was born February 28, 1945 the Son of Gordon Poling and Kathy Vanderlinden Poling. He was married for 23 years to the former Rhonda Lewis (Poling). He proudly served his Country as a United States Marine during the Vietnam War; he attained a rank of Major, having served 25 plus years in the Service. He was awarded Pistol Expert Badge (6th Award), Rifle Expert Badge, Good Conduct Medal, National defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal W/7*, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Commendation Medal W/Gold *, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Commendation Cross of Gallantry W/Palm & Frame. Mr. Poling was also a member of the Arab Optimist Club and had lived in the Arab area since 1995.

    Lonnie is survived by his Wife: Rhonda Poling of Arab; Two Sons: Commander Michael Wayne Baze and his Wife: Chandra of California and Mark Poling and his Wife: Heather of Texas; a Daughter: Lisa Marie Poling of Texas and One Grandchild: Logan Poling also of Texas; his Father: Gordon Poling of Texas and Five Brothers: Richard Poling of Texas, Lyle Poling of Idaho, Jerry Vanderlinden, Mark Vanderlinden and Larry Vanderlinden all of California; and One Sister: Carol Sue Poling of Texas and was preceded in death by his Mother: Kathy Vanderlinden Poling and by a Brother: Carlton Poling.

    Memorial Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 16, 2008 here at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. Speakers, Terry Beane, Keith Kubert, Raleigh Durham, Commander Michael Wayne Baze and Reverend Sam Huffstutler. Lonnie's Family has elected to cremate.

    Visitation for Mr. Poling will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, 1340 North Main Street, Arab, AL 35016.
